Spent the weekend in Tignes with Phil and Euan of Impulse Racing. Great fun, demanding (… and at times frustrating).
All leading to terrific breakthrough skiing. Transformational coaching and insightful drills taking my somewhat outdated technique and turning it into (I hope) something a little more efficient.
The most telling aspect? on the last day, Monday, windy, snowy, flat light – when everyone seemed to ignore the grim, grim conditions and just skiied like it was a bluebird day.

An absolutely enormous thank you for organising such a brilliant trip to Les Houches and all the training through the Autumn and winter beforehand. I can not start to imagine the hours and stress entailed with organising so many children (and parents!) over so many months and having everyone in the right place, at the right time, in the correct kit for the eventual races. We were also so impressed by the standard of skiing by the New Hall students at such a prestigious event. We also noted their behaviour, friendliness and their impressively high team spirit and encouragement to each other. They should all be very proud of themselves. We would also like to thank Phil Brown and his brilliant team of coaches. Thomas and Sophie have improved enormously with their coaching, support and encouragement. Thomas has gained a great deal from the training and ski trip; He is not the keenest of rugby and cricket players and so for Thomas to be given the opportunity to represent his school at skiing has been enormously important to him.

I came across Impulse Racing when looking for a training club willing to help older skiers like me, with less experience of racing. Having previously competed in only a couple of semi-serious GS races in the Alps, I was very keen to improve and possibly get the chance to enter some indoor slalom races. I found the indoor Hemel sessions immediately enjoyable and helpful. – Masters Training

All the Impulse coaches really know what they are talking about, and they put across the information very clearly. Although I felt slightly self-conscious at first, being an older skier and knowing that Phil has trained some top national skiers, I have always been made to feel welcome and treated the same as their faster and more illustrious trainees. I have found the combination of gates training and work on fundamentals highly beneficial. Just wanted to let you know that Meryn’s ski training has really paid off. We spent last week in Les Menuires and she passed her gold at ESF ski school on her first attempt. Her skiing and her confidence have noticeably improved from last year and so has her enjoyment.
During her lessons, she was going on black runs and moguls and loved it.
