Meet Ian ‘Stretch’ Booker
Ian ‘Stretch’ Booker
UK and Alpine Coach
Stretch started skiing on family holidays, then with school and later with friends.
He has spent 2 winters skiing/snowboarding in Canada.
Ian also enjoyed a winter working in Meribel with Impulse director Phil Brown.
These trips made the decision for Ian to enrol on the BASI qualification pathway which he continues to pursue and develop.
Through the BASI coaching courses and his friendship with Phil, around 6 years ago, he started working for Impulse as a coach working on camps and races in Pila, Les Houches, Les Deux Alpes, Wengen other European resorts as well as Hemel Hempstead indoor and UK dry slopes in the summer.
Over the years he’s progressed from a, mainly, teaching background to become involved with the process of organising and delivering race training, race support and forming working relationships with resort organisations and people within the industry. Not forgetting to deliver enjoyable training and teaching sessions for the racers.
He has spent some seasons in Leysin, Switzerland and, as an instructor for Ecole Suisse de Ski there, he continues to teach skiing from beginner group lessons to private clinics for kids and adults. He’s integrated with a Swiss ski school and taken on the language, culture and Swiss ski philosophy.
In between his mountain escapes he has built a small business in construction in the UK.
Outside of skiing, He’s pretty sporty and can be found on many forms of bicycle and on the golf course.
